Causeway Macra 5K 2014

Causeway hosted a 5K road race on Sunday 6th April, with funds raised going to Recovery Haven. For an inaugural event, this race saw a high turn out and was well organised and supported for a first outing by the hosts, Macra Na Feirme. The nice weather played its part in encouraging participation as well over 100 people started out on the 5k run/walk. St Brendan's AC had a significant turn out and featured strongly in the top finishers - Ann McGlynn 1st Female over the finish line and Artur Nowak 3rd overall.

Medals for all participants were much appreciated, as too were the refreshments which followed in Harty's Bar,  though perhaps future organisers of this event could include a bottle of water at the finish line! Hopefully this will be an annual road race for the racing calender in Kerry.
Good to see club member Pat Sheehy back on the road.
Another good performance came from local man and also St.Brendan's AC member Tom Scanlon, finishing 4th overall. Other club members who supported this event were Noreen Leen, Kirstie Nowak and Catherine Burke.

Ballyheigue 5K & 10K 2014

There was a good turn out as usual in support of the KerryHead Family Resource Centre annual road race on Sunday 30th March. As always it was a well organised event with good stewarding and after race refreshments.
This race offers the option of a 10k race or a (slightly extended) 5k fun run/walk, which can involve all the family. St Brendan's AC was well represented in both races with good results all round. The route is challenging and strength training over winter months certainly paid off for our club members, as evident from Joan Reil Burke who finished 3rd Female overall in 5k and Ann McGlynn who came in 4th Female in 10k. Other club members who took part included Dermot Dillane, Tom Scanlon, Kirstie Nowak.
