National Indoors Weekend 2 Nenagh

Three St Brendan's athletes travelled to Nenagh for the second weekend of the national juvenile indoor championships last Saturday.Eoghan Courtney was first up in the U17 long jump where he finished in second place with a jump of 6.07m.Peter O Brien was next in the U17 shot putt where he finished in 4th place but by his own standards threw poorly on the day;his Munster winning throw of 12.24 would have got him silver but with a long season ahead theres plenty of time to make up for it.PJ Galvin was once again over 1.90m in the U19 high jump with the top three athletes finishing on that height but unfortunatly PJ lost out on countback to finish in third place.Last but not least Eoghan was up again in the 200m where he won his heat to qualify for the final. In lane 2 he got off to an ok start but coming off the last bend he was trailing in fourth but powered home to take bronze in a PB of 23.90.Well done to all!

Our outdoor season will kick off next Saturday at the Leevale Open in CIT Cork.A bus will leave at 8am from Ardfert medical centre but U18s+ should be aware that the junior and senior program does not start until 2pm if they want to make their own way. http://www.leevale.org/attach/11/sports/sports_order.pdf

On Good Friday there is also a Kerry Easter Open Meet in Castleisland which is mainly geared towards field events including all jumps and throws with a few track events including short & long hurdles,400m,800m and a 2km steeplechase.I will post a program in the next few days here.

The RunKerryRun 5km is also being held in the Killarney Demense April 16th at 11am with registration at 10am at e10 entry. All funds from this race will go towards the development of Kerry athletics and more specifically the Kerry Juvenile Squads.Unfortunatly as we are away at the Leevale Open most of our athletes cannot attend but hopefully the club fit4life group along with family of the club athletes will attend. Its for a great cause!

March Round Up 2011

Darragh Lowth was the only club athlete to make the long trip to Magharafelt for the national indoor championships where he competed in the 600m.He finished 3rd in a huge PB of 1.47 with less than a second seperating the first four athletes.Well done Darragh.

The St Brendans AC U9-U14 athletes once again retained their Kerry sportshall title in Kenmare by the minimum of 1 point!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though our numbers were down this year the group of athletes that travelled competed fantastically with everybody bringing home at least one medal with most athletes bringing home a bunch of medals.I dont have a list of athletes that took part at present but well done to everyone involved!

St Brendan's AC hosted the Kerry 5km road championships on March 20th.We had two sole representatives in Caoimhe Casey 3rd in the novice women and Artur Nowak 4th in the O40 mens category.Well done to both athletes and thank you to anybody who helped out in any way on the day and especially Ardfert national school for allowing us the use of the school.

Well done to both Orlaith Casey and Shane Lowth who qualified from the North Munster schools cross country to compete at the Munster schools cross country where both athletes acquitted themeselves well.

Welcome to the following new athletes who have joined my group in the last month or so-Matt Clancy,Tom Clancy,Ben Clancy,Rachel Murphy,Grainne Griffin,Jamie O Carroll,Naomi O Sullivan,Aodha O Carroll,Cathal and welcome back to Thomas Nolan,Daniel Shanahan,Quinn Newsome,Aoife Leahy and Ashling Dwyer.

Get well soon to Stephen Walsh and Edward O Carroll who will be out for a while through illness/injury.

Club Awards Night

Over 100 people attended the annual club awards night in the Ballyroe hotel on Saturday March 5th to celebrate the fantastic season the club had in 2009/2010.The following were the main award winners with all Munster and National medal winning athletes also recieving a presentation on the night but there are too many to list which is a good complaint to have.John Clifford was a fantastic MC on the night with club band "Beneficial" providing the entertainment with David Hogan aka Junior D bringing the night to a close with a disco.A fantastic and well deserved night was had by all!
